Searching for a Unique Dog Name
When it came to naming our dog, any common puppy name just wouldn’t do. I wanted to have our dog be unique in a sea of commonality – does the world really need another dog named “Rex” ? I surely didn’t think so, but looking for unique dog names is a lot harder than you would think.
Now, one of the easiest solutions that I thought of would be to just create my own dog name. Originally, that seemed to be the obvious choice, but after some careful consideration, I decided against it. My arguments for not creating my own name included other people watching my dog (and needing to be able to say the name), the possible reactions from the public when I shouted my dog’s name (good and bad) as well as the practicality of it. I mean, I don’t know if I would have liked it if my parents just whipped up my name out of thin air, so why would I make my pet feel that way too?
Instead of trying to create my own name, I decided to do some research online. I figured that people who did pick unique names for their pets would publish it online and maybe I could find some inspiration in their words. I made a quick list of blogs where the owners had dogs with unique names and I started reading. It was a great learning experience, and I really felt that I had some new insights on how to come up with a name for my dog.
But I am going to give myself a bit of time to come up with something before I decide on one name. No, I am not trying to procrastinate, but I just want to make sure I pick a good one. I have always believed that naming someone is very important, and I don’t want to rush things. Once I decide I’ll let you guys know what I picked – I bet it will be a good one.
