Can There Be Too Much Make Up?

An interesting and unofficial poll of a sample of mid western American young men in high school recently found that almost all of them would be surprised if their date arrived to prom without any lip stick. When further pressed upon this question, it was discovered that more than half of the young men had adamant expectations that their date would at least be wearing some make up. In the immortal words of one of these young men, “make up matters.” It certainly does, but the precarious question arises of whether or not a young woman attending prom can have too much make up? Some of the most beautiful cheap prom dresses are crafted with the idea that the wearer will be wearing at least a bit of make up and it is obviously a tradition that a young woman make herself look as pretty as possible for prom, one of the most important nights of her young life.

So where does a young woman who is getting ready for prom draw the line? Showing up for prom with absolutely no make up will most likely make the hair of any young woman raise up in fear because make up can provide a bit of stress relief; make up can make even the most adorable woman feel even better about themselves. It would be precarious to rely upon just the elegance of cheap prom dresses to make a young woman feel confidant about their own bodies. While it is true that many cheap prom dresses are designed specifically to draw the attention of viewers, it should be the wearer of the dress who should be in the spotlight. The best advice available is that when a young woman attending prom can look in the mirror and say to themselves that they are beautiful then questions of “how much make up is too much” becomes moot.
